Litter is mainly misplaced garbage that comes from seven main sources: pedestrians, drivers, household garbage cans, commercial dumpsters, construction sites, demolition sites, loading docks, and trucks with uncovered loads (Union County Government).

Dog River stories:
Brooke:
Last summer I went to my friend, Caroline Rickard’s, Lake Martin house. We decided to go jet skiing and while we were driving around I saw a plastic bottle floating in the water next to a big rock. I knew it wasn’t good for the lake if it stayed there so I picked it up out of the water. Even though it was a small act towards saving the environment it still helped. If everyone decided to do small acts to save the environment a big difference could be made.

Kaylee:
One of my best memories of Dog River is the day I went with my church. We arrived there early in the morning and started the day off on the boat. When I got off the boat, the family whose house we were at had a dog that practically attacked everyone on the boat. He was so excited to have people there. I spent almost the rest of my day playing with him. When I threw a ball in the water he would run and get it, it made him so happy. I don't want to see that go away. If our waters continue to decrease in cleanliness and safeness, then dogs like him won't be able to feel that joy anymore. Don't let that happen. Take care of our water ways.

Ashley:
One day during the summer, my family and I were boating on dog river. We had been on the boat all day, tubing, swimming, and eating lunch. It was a beautiful day until we were in a no wake zone and there was a ton of litter on the sides. Nobody in my family noticed it until we were passed it and my mom made a comment about it. When we all turned around to look at the litter a man was picking all of it up. It was something that nobody sees everyday and something that I will always remember.
